Frequently asked questions
Q. Do I have to be present at the centre to sell my goods?
A. No. You just bring your items to the centre and display them in your unit or cabinet. Our experienced sales staff will help our visitors with any questions about your items. If our staff need further information, they will telephone you. You can come in at any time during our normal opening hours to re-stock / re-arrange your display unit or cabinet.
Q. How and when do I get paid the proceeds from my sales?
A. At the end of each month you will be sent a statement detailing all of your sales for that month. The money you are owed for your sales will be paid by BACS transfer into your bank account within four banking days of the end of the month.
Q. How and when do you collect my monthly rent?
A. Your monthly rent is payable in advance by standing order on the 28th of the previous month. You will be given a standing order form to hand into your bank so that your bank can transfer the rent payment directly into our bank account. As it is a standing order (NOT a direct debit), you can cancel it at any time.
Q. Is there a minimum contract period?
A. No. Our dealer agreements simply require that you give us 28 days notice, in writing, of your intention to leave, to coincide with the end of a month.
Q. What about security at the centre?
A. We take security very seriously at Townsford Mill. We do however recommend that valuable items are kept in locked cabinets. We have a network of 20 security CCTV cameras throughout the centre.
Q. Is there a ‘dateline’ at the centre or are there any goods I can’t sell?
A. We do not operate a dateline but we expect all goods to be of good quality. As long as the items would be of general interest to others you can sell them. You will see as you walk around the centre the sorts of items that sell well.
Q. Do I have to wait for the beginning of a month to get started?
A. No. You can start at any time of month. We will only charge you pro-rata for the days of the month you occupy your cabinet /unit in the first part month.
Q. How do I get started?
A. Simply telephone to make an appointment with one of our duty managers who will show you the available floor space and cabinets. They will work out your monthly rental and assign a dealer number to you and explain how to write up your price tickets. Their knowledge of current market trends will help you to set realistic prices for your items.
Q. What is your customer footfall?
Our counter registers an average of 8000 crossing a month. We think this translates to between 2,000 and 4,000 visitors.
